About

We're a two person team of artists and makers. Here, we create artwork, handmade objects, and functional pieces inspired by our materials, interests, and everyday lives.

Pine & Pua started in 2026 based in the Glass Studio at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.

What Makes Us

Jacob Barter, MFA

Jacob Barter is a multidisciplinary artist based in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, where he is pursuing an MFA in Art at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Working primarily in glass, alongside metal, ceramics, and other materials, his practice explores the relationships between familiar objects, their functions, and the meanings assigned to them. Through the manipulation of discarded glass bottles, Barter transforms recognizable industrial forms into unfamiliar sculptural objects, challenging the boundaries between material, object, and thing.

Vivian Hui, BS, BFA

Vivian Hui is a Hawai'i-based artist working primarily in glass, metal, and paper. Her work aims to explore identity and memory in a way that stimulates conversations on how people understand themselves and their place in the world. Hui is particularly interested in cultural symbolisms as a way of dissecting experiences that are both personal and widely shared.

Hui is currently pursuing B.S. degrees in Biochemistry and Microbiology, and a B.F.A. in Studio Art at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.
